Butterfly Girl

2023

Ceramic, paint, epoxy, and chalk

Life size

“Butterfly Girl,” created by Sascha Mallon, is part of COPE NYC's exhibition, "Blue," the first curated exhibition in 630 Flushing's South Lobby Gallery curated by Vida Sabbaghi.

Sascha Mallon’s first life-size sculpture the Butterfly Girl is engaged in her own art. The seated Girl is situated in front of the South Lobby’s manhole with sign of “water” written on it. The blue chalk around the manhole is surrounded by life-size butterflies, suggesting an enchanted fairy tale environment. The Butterfly Girl’s smile and whimsical presence add to this surreal atmosphere by interacting with a passerby as they go on their way.
