Shallows

2019

Aluminum with acrylic on wood

71 x 71 x 6 in

“Shallows” created by KX2 is part of COPE NYC’s exhibition, Blue,” the first curated exhibition in 630 Flushing’s South Lobby Gallery curated by Vida Sabbaghi.

Shallows is a large-scale circular piece inspired by ocean colors ranging from shallow to deeper waters. The water appears to be swirling which many people liken to a portal or fittingly for us in Florida, a hurricane. This piece involves rolled aluminum, hand sanded bar, with multiple layers of painting on wood. The top layer is finished with a highly sculpted gloss medium which adds to the rippled waves of the surface.
